We all have been hearing about the importance of breaking free from the diet culture and embrace a more intuitive and flexible approach to the way we eat and see our bodies. Saying NO! to diets and they multibillion dollar business is an act of rebellion, empowering you to make mindful decisions about food and honoring your bodies needs and wants.
Our team at Home For Balance is determined to fight the stigma associated with eating disorders and weight by supporting our clients find their own path to healing. Below is a short audio that will help you start connecting with your body and inner cues for hunger and fullness. Eating mindfully will help you uncover thoughts, feelings, and preconceived notions about food and body that can get on the way of enjoying your food and being in the moment.

Mindful Eating Exercise
(To complete this exercise, please have a plate with grapes ready and click on the image to listen to the audio recording.)
You can repeat these steps with other foods such as a chocolate or raisin. You can also practice this skill during your meals as you eat the different foods on your plate. The more you practice eating mindfully, the more you will learn about your relationship with food and your body. Remember to minimize distractions during your practice and be fully present by paying attention to what you are eating and letting all of your senses experience the food before you swallow it. Remember to not judge your experience and remain curious.
After completing the exercise, take a moment to reflect on your experience:
How was this different from your normal way of eating grapes?
What did you notice during the exercise?
Any thoughts about how this skill might apply to eating or other areas of your life?
